Silent No More: Tonya's Journey to Confidence
Tonya is 10 years old. In March 2022, she and her mother fled Ukraine for Israel, escaping the war. She joined our program in September 2024, carrying more fear than any child should have to carry.
Tonya was painfully shy, weighed down by self-doubt. She was afraid to speak, even to the other children, even to the counselors. She lacked both self-confidence and a basic sense of safety. She couldn't even ride a bicycle. But beneath all of it was something unmistakable: a fierce desire to succeed.
With our team's support, everything began to change. Within just two months, Tonya was opening up to those around her, joining in every activity, and yes, she learned to ride a bike. Today, she has real friends at the program and shows up faithfully for every lesson and activity.
From War-Torn to Winning: Danylo's Quiet Comeback
Danylo is a refugee from Ukraine. He came to Israel in May 2022 with his grandmother, his parents unable to leave. That separation, layered onto the trauma of war, left deep marks on him, marks that showed in his behavior and his struggle to adapt to an unfamiliar life.
When he first joined our program, Danylo was closed off and anxious. He faced serious learning difficulties, carried a deep mistrust of others, and, despite more than two years in Israel, barely spoke a word of Hebrew.
Our staff met him with steady attention and care, while also giving him room to express himself in his own time. Slowly, step by step, his confidence grew. He began making friends. Hebrew still doesn't come easily to Danylo, but he no longer fights against learning it. And on a bicycle, he shines: one of the top students in the group, and, in that success, he has found a rare sense of security and happiness.
The Man Who Turned Gratitude Into Action
Sergei came to Israel from Ukraine a couple of years ago and was referred to us through the municipality to receive a monthly bag of food. Every single time he came to pick up his parcel, he made a point of expressing his gratitude.
When his year of assistance came to an end, Sergei didn't just say thank you and walk away. He told us that, as a new immigrant, he had received so much help, from us and from the state, that he wanted to give something back.
He's kept that promise. Almost every month now, Sergei shows up not to receive a food bag, but to help pack them for others on the list. Just last week, he was part of the team that assembled 900 bags of food for Rosh Hashanah, turning the very support that once carried him into something he now gives to others.
