I Don't Worry About Going Hungry Anymore
Chayim is 75 years old, a widower living alone in Tel Aviv's impoverished HaTikva neighborhood. His financial situation is dire, and before he began receiving support through one of C4i's 'Feed the Hungry' projects, chronic nutritional insecurity was simply part of his daily life. He was often hungry.
Being on our Food Distribution Center's list has changed that. "I so look forward to getting the packages, you can't imagine," he shared. "I still don't have much, but I don't worry about going hungry anymore."
The food has given him something beyond a full plate: a small joy he looks forward to sharing. Chayim likes to tell the program's social worker, Nofar, about the dishes he prepares with what he receives. A couple of weeks ago, he told her he'd made pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs. "I'm not as good a cook as my wife was," he confessed, smiling, "but I think she'd be proud of my efforts."
A Mother, Not Alone Anymore
Noga lost both her parents at a young age, and by the time she became a mother herself, she had no family to lean on. Unemployed, unqualified, and utterly alone, she faced the hardest challenge of her life: caring for her newborn daughter with nothing to fall back on.
Her first step forward came through one of C4i's 'Feed the Hungry' projects, where she joined the Parent-Child Center's Mother-to-Mother program and finally found the guidance she needed to care for her child. From there, doors opened. She was referred to our Welfare to Wellbeing program to help her build skills and find work, and to our Food Distribution Center, which made sure she and her daughter never went without food.
That support gave her something she hadn't had in years: room to breathe.
"Knowing I'm getting these packages takes a lot of the pressure off," she said. "This way, I can work on making a better future for us, instead of worrying about where my daughter's next meal is going to come from."
Miriam's Table Is Full Again
Miriam, an 83-year-old widow, lives alone in a small apartment in South Tel Aviv. With limited mobility and a modest pension, even a trip to the grocery store can feel overwhelming.
"Before I got onto one of C4i's 'Feed the Hungry' projects list, it was hard," she recalls. "I had to be very careful to make the money last, and it wasn't always enough. Sometimes neighbors would drop by with some food, but I was always worried I'd run out."
Being placed on the one of C4i's 'Feed the Hungry' project's Food Distribution Center list changed that. The twice-monthly food package deliveries, she says, are among the highlights of her month. "I love it when the volunteer arrives with my package," she said. "I don't worry about food anymore, and I'm also eating so much healthier and better now. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!"
