Two Shifts a Day, and Still an Empty Pantry
"Each time, she faced the same question: how would she feed her children until the money came in? Working harder wasn't an option, because she was already working as hard as anyone could."
Leah works two shifts every single day. She leaves home exhausted and comes back more exhausted, and she does it all for her three children. Even so, her income has never been enough. Once the rent is paid, there isn't enough left to keep food on the table every day of the month.
The tiredness never went away, but it wasn't the hardest part. The hardest part was opening the pantry and watching it empty out, shelf by shelf, days before her next paycheck. Each time, she faced the same question: how would she feed her children until the money came in? Working harder wasn't an option, because she was already working as hard as anyone could.
Then Leah was added to the Food Distribution Center list run by C4i's Feed the Hungry Project Partner, and things began to change.
Twice a month, a box now arrives filled with staples she can count on: rice, pasta, canned goods and oil. It isn't a luxury. It's something far more important: a practical answer to a problem that had felt impossible. For the first time in a long while, Leah knows those empty days at the end of the month will be covered.
That box closes the painful gap between a sparse wage and a nourished family. It gives Leah what she needed most: real support, steadiness in a life that felt like it could fall apart at any moment, and the security of knowing her children will have enough to eat.
