I Don't Worry About Going Hungry Anymore
"I still don't have much, but I don't worry about going hungry anymore."
Chayim is 75 years old, a widower living alone in Tel Aviv's impoverished HaTikva neighborhood. His financial situation is dire, and before he began receiving support through one of C4i's 'Feed the Hungry' projects, chronic nutritional insecurity was simply part of his daily life. He was often hungry.
Being on our Food Distribution Center's list has changed that. "I so look forward to getting the packages, you can't imagine," he shared. "I still don't have much, but I don't worry about going hungry anymore."
The food has given him something beyond a full plate: a small joy he looks forward to sharing. Chayim likes to tell the program's social worker, Nofar, about the dishes he prepares with what he receives. A couple of weeks ago, he told her he'd made pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs. "I'm not as good a cook as my wife was," he confessed, smiling, "but I think she'd be proud of my efforts."
